This is a complex topic which Richard Susskind simplifies by focusing on the main issues, analysing them having regard to the predictions he made 20 years ago and, having regard to the past 20 years expresses views on the future delivery of legal services (of all types) and the nature and economic structure of the legal profession which will provide them.

This book is about innovation, full stop, as much as it is about innovation in the legal procession. Substitute any profession in for lawyers, and it every argument will still apply.The first and last chapters encapsulate the conflict between the old and new guard, the "benevolent custodians" who are truly interested in leaving society better than they found it, and the "jealous guardians" driven only by self-interest. Susskind also provides a stimulating vision and roadmap about how to drive the necessary and inevitable transformation facing the legal profession.

Want to understand where the legal profession is heading and changing? This book provides strategic insight regarding answers to that question. Although published in 2012, it is relevant through 2020 and many of the early observations and predictions in the book have begun to occur between now and when the book first was published. I think it is particularly useful for General Counsel and senior corporate/organizational in- house lawyers to understand, develop and effectively and efficiently deploy multi-sourced legal services for their client organizations.

Tomorrow's legal world bears little resemblance to that of the past, according to Richard Susskind in this book. The next two decades will bring more changes to legal institutions and lawyers than have the last two centuries. While traditional job opportunities for young lawyers are diminishing, a whole range of exciting new legal occupations will soon be created.First, the bad news. The changes in the legal profession coinciding with the global recession are here to stay. Even if and when the global economy recovers, the three main drivers of change will not be going away:* The "more for less" challenge, in which companies have been putting pressure on their general counsel to cut legal budgets by 30 to 50 percent* Liberalisation, which is allowing people who are not qualified as lawyers to provide particular types of legal services* Information technology, which is becoming increasingly sophisticated so that computers can perform tasks that previously required skilled lawyersTo cope with the "more for less" challenge, law firms have tried charging less and alternative fee arrangements, but these efforts fail to achieve the cost reductions demanded by clients. The only two viable strategies, according to the author, are the efficiency strategy (which finds ways of cutting the costs of legal service) and the collaboration strategy (which involves clients sharing the costs of particular legal services). These strategies will require the breaking down of legal services into standard parts and custom parts, with the standard parts being commoditised and outsourced, in-sourced or computerised.Courts will also experience radical changes, as access-to-justice issues are resolved not through higher levels of funding but through greater use of information technology. We can expect to see a whole range of online legal services including virtual courts and online dispute resolution. There will be new types of legal jobs, such as legal knowledge engineers, legal technologists, legal project managers, and online dispute resolution practitioners.As with any predictions of the future, those relating to the immediate future based on currently observable trends are more likely to be accurate than those relating to the more distant future. Nonetheless, I found this to be a fascinating and easy-to-read book, which should be of great interest to anyone involved in law firm management.

This was the book that started me doing so much further reading about what is going on now and the future for my profession. It was a good starting place and kind of the foundation all the additional knowledge I have gained as I have continued to read on this subject.

Good book. Lacks sophisticated or complex arguments and is redundant at times. However, the basic concepts are well described.

This book was solid in its approach and method. However, it's substance lacked. Instead Susskind seemed to take an outline of a much better argument with more substance and put it in this book. There are times when Susskind sounds like a fortuneteller (or doomsayer depending on your predilection) when he is predicting the future. It's good to have his arguments in the back of your mind, but I wouldn't significantly shift my professional plans based on what he says in here.

I am using this book as a text for a Future of Law Practice class. It is written by noted commentator Richard Susskind who frequently speaks and writes on the topic as he has done for many years. It is a great way to get thinking about how the delivery of legal services is changing or will need to change. The book is focused on the large civil lawyer firms, so those interested in legal aid and criminal law will need to supplement this book with other sources. Overall, a worthwhile read from a long term expert on the topic.

Again, some reference error, something supposed to be referred to appendix A, they indicated in reference B, it is harder to understand even where some equations come from, it is a very good text book, but not very practical, hope people can write books with two sections, one for fast build-up for work skills(on how to and why to use them), the other for theoretically improving(the explanation of design ideas and the theory of each key components of RF Design).

I got the book for a class, and it is good enough. Everything is well explained and with examples.

Pretty decent RF book. Easy read (for an engineering book), outlines all the necessary equations. I didn't use it much because my professor was so great though I didn't find it necessary.

I liked this book. Great introduction to RF circuit design. Not a complete reference, but gets you going. Enough for a semester for sure.

I find this book to be one of the clearest engineering books I've had the pleasure to read. Thats not to say that the material covered is easy or that the book is simple, however the author's writting style is quite easy to follow and they try not to deviate much from the main topic. It is very common for an RF design book to go deep into the world of Electro-Magnetic Theory and Maxwell equations, however this book tries to avoid unnecessary coverage of EM theory, many engineering books try to cover much fundamental EM theory to "remind" the reader of his previous EM courses, however this is not the case in this book, meaning that you dont have to go through 3-4 chapters of academic EM theory before you get to the new material you want to learn, I find that very appealing, less emphasis is made on the academic side of EM theory and more emphasis is made on its applications or engineering aspects. That being said, EM is indeed covered when needed and it is also a pre-requisite for this book aswell as advanced math such as multivariable calculus and differential equations, yet only used when needed.In contrast to the very popular book "RF Circuit Design" by Bowick, I find this book by Ludwig and Bogdanov to be much more complete and complex, I always liked the apparent practicality of the book by Bowick but I think that it lacks a solid theoretical foundation, formulas are presented without much explanation as to what they do and where they come from, yet it may be one of the best books to get a general idea of the subject. This book by Ludwig and Bogdanov has a perfect blend between theoretical/academic and practical approaches.The book is full of worked and applied examples which make everything much more clear after reading pages of mathematical derivations or complex explanations.I find the entire chunk of the book on transmission lines to be exceptional, both the circuit and EM approaches to transmission lines are covered to derive the equations for distributed elements, everything is explained in a very simple yet effective way for the reader to understand travelling waves inside conductors and methods for impedance matching.This is definitely not a book for the beginner but you dont have to be an expert in the field in order to read it, I would say this is a graduate level or at least upper undergrad book.

About the Author Peter A. Stanwick is an associate professor in the Department of Management at Auburn University. His research has been published in various journals, including The Journal of Business Ethics, Management Decision, The Journal of Corporate Citizenship, The Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance, Business Strategy and the Environment, Eco-Management and Auditing, and American Business Review. He also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Business Ethics. He was invited to present papers in 2004 and 2011 at Oxford University. Dr. Stanwick has received two grants from the Daniel F. Breeden Endowments for Faculty Enhancement and a Pursell Ethics Grant. In 1995, Dr. Stanwick received the Graduate Faculty Member Award for Excellence by the Association of Graduate Business Students at Auburn University. Dr. Stanwick teaches strategic management and business ethics at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as international management at the undergraduate level.Sarah D. Stanwick is an associate professor in the School of Accountancy at Auburn University. Her research has been published in various journals, including the Journal of Business Ethics, Advances in Accounting, The Accounting Educators' Journal, The Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance, and The Journal of Corporate Citizenship. She has received two Daniel F. Breeden Endowments for Faculty Enhancement, a Pursell Ethics Grant, and a grant from the World Resources Institute to write an instructional case on the pulp and paper industry in Alabama. About the Author
Dietmar Jannach is a chaired Professor of Computer Science at TU Dortmund, Germany. The author of more than 100 scientific papers, he is a member of the editorial board of the Applied Intelligence journal and the review board of the International Journal of Electronic Commerce.

Markus Zanker is an associate professor at the Alpen-Adria University, Klagenfurt, Austria. He directs the research group on recommender systems and is the director of the study programme in information management. In 2010 he was the program co-chair of the 4th International ACM Conference on Recommender Systems. He has published numerous papers in the area of artificial intelligence focusing on recommender systems, consumer buying behavior and human factors. He is also an associate editor of the International Journal of Human-Computer Studies.

Alexander Felfernig is Professor of Applied Software Engineering at the Graz University of Technology (TU Graz). In his research he focuses on intelligent methods and algorithms supporting the development and maintenance of complex knowledge bases. Furthermore, Alexander is interested in the application of AI techniques in the software engineering context, for example, the application of decision and recommendation technologies to make software requirements engineering processes more effective. For his research he received the Heinz-Zemanek Award from the Austrian Computer Society in 2009.

Gerhard Friedrich is a chaired Professor at the Alpen-Adria Universität Klagenfurt, Austria, where he is head of the Institute of Applied Informatics and directs the Intelligent Systems and Business Informatics research group.
